Volvo Construction Equipment brings EWR150 Electric to market in Europe

Posted On: Tuesday 2 June 2026

Building on its market-leading electric portfolio, the EWR150 Electric brings zero-emission power to the wheeled excavator segment for the first time. The 15–17-ton machine has been developed specifically to meet the demands of modern construction, delivering the same proven performance, comfort and reliability as its conventional diesel equivalent, but without tailpipe emissions.

Combining outstanding mobility with zero-emission operation, the EWR150 Electric is designed to travel independently and operate on public roads without the need for a transport trailer. This makes it an efficient and flexible solution for a wide range of applications, particularly in urban environments where access, noise reduction and sustainability are increasingly important.

At the core of the machine is a new drive concept. An electric travel motor, combined with a hydraulic boom energy-recovery system, helps ensure longer operating hours – typically up to 8-10 hours, depending on the application – while optimizing energy efficiency.

To support flexible operation, the EWR150 Electric offers multiple charging options, including up to 150kW DC fast charging for rapid turnaround or to top-up during breaks, as well as up to 22kW onboard AC charging for overnight charging. The result is a highly productive machine that maximizes energy use while supporting operators through smooth, responsive performance.

First revealed to customers at Volvo Days in 2024, the EWR150 Electric returns to Volvo Days 2026 in production-ready form, showing how Volvo CE is turning innovation into customer-focused solutions.

Marc Engels, Global Product Manager at Volvo CE, said: “With the EWR150 Electric, we’ve applied electric technology to the wheeled excavator segment without changing how customers use the machine. By bringing this machine to market in Europe first, we are responding directly to customer demand for solutions that can operate efficiently in urban and noise-sensitive environments, without compromising productivity or capability.”

Designed to be versatile, efficient and low-impact

With quiet, zero-emission operation, the EWR150 Electric is a highly versatile machine suitable for a wide range of applications. In urban areas and noise-sensitive environments, it enables greater flexibility, including operation outside of standard working hours. At the same time, it is equally suited to demanding tasks in agriculture and landscaping, forestry, building and demolition, road construction, utilities and waste and recycling.

Requiring less maintenance than a conventional machine thanks to its electric driveline, the EWR150 Electric helps reduce operating costs and improve uptime, contributing to lower total cost of ownership over the machine’s lifetime.

Its compact short-swing design makes it ideal for working in tight, constrained spaces, while fully matching the diesel version in reach, travel speed, lifting capacity and weight range, with no compromise on capability or versatility.

With the EWR150 Electric now available in Europe, Volvo CE continues to expand its electric offering, providing customers with a wide variety of solutions across multiple technologies to meet their needs as they transition towards more sustainable, efficient and future-ready operations.
