Manitou Telehandlers

Manitou’s telehandlers, or telescopic forklifts, include models tailored to construction, farm work, mining, and more. It offers traditional rigid units as well as MRT models with a rotating upper platform. Manitou equips its telehandlers with rugged tyres designed to navigate uneven ground and rough terrain. With dozens of model types, Manitou telehandlers provide versatility and productivity on any jobsite.

Manitou Forklifts

Manitou’s mast forklift trucks can be customised for any application in the construction, agricultural, and industrial sectors. Its forklifts feature durable frames, high-visibility cabins, and impressive lifting capacities. Certain models also have four-wheel drive and four-directional steering capabilities.

Manitou produces rough terrain forklift trucks for use on construction sites, as well as industrial units with pneumatic or cushion tyres designed to be operated in warehouses. The firm also makes 3-wheeled forklifts that attach to the rear of a truck and ride along to a customer’s location. Truck-mounted forklifts enable the driver to make “last-mile” deliveries, unloading cargo at its destination.

Manitou History

In 1958, Marcel Braud invented the first all-terrain forklift—the 500-kilogram (1,100-pound) load capacity MC 5—in western France. His design inverted the layout of a farm tractor and added a lift mast and hydraulic steering.

Braud’s family helped him decide to name his new material-handling equipment company “Manitou,” meaning a machine that “handles everything.” He added, “It is pronounceable in all languages, ideal for international development!” The French company acted on Braud’s ambition to globalise in 1972 when it opened a subsidiary in Southampton in the UK.

Nine years later, in 1981, Manitou launched its first telescopic handler. This initial member of its Maniscopic range laid the foundation for the company’s reputation as a leading manufacturer of telehandlers. In 1993, its MRT 1540 became its first telehandler with a continuously rotating platform, another Manitou hallmark.

Also in 1993, Manitou developed its first aerial work platform, the 100 AE electric articulated boom lift with a lifting height of 10 meters (33 feet). The manufacturer purchased specialised material-handling and warehousing machine maker Loc Manutention, now LMH Solutions, the same year. The company entered the truck-mounted forklifts market with its ManiTransit range in 1995.

In 2008, Manitou introduced itself to America by purchasing skid-steer and articulated wheel loader manufacturer Gehl and its sister brand Mustang, now Mustang by Manitou. In 2017, Manitou acquired Australian mining equipment distributor LiftRite, and now produces attachments and telehandlers specific to the mining segment. In the same year, Manitou bought the India-based backhoe loader and mini-loader maker TEPL.
